BILLINGS X LA : Ken Erwin
IN FOCUS (in video): KEN ERWIN
Design aficionados know Ken’s name well. A true stalwart of the LA design scene, he is known for his breadth of knowledge, honesty, and taste.
What some don’t know is that in addition to knowing a lot about design, he is also a designer. BILLINGS is proud to offer an exquisite example of his ‘Black and Blue’ Lamp (1985), which is one of eight total, as part of BILLINGSXLA. Designed when he was a part of the Apocalypse Group, which was inspired by Italy’s Memphis cohort, the piece was shown at Whiteley Gallery on La Brea as part of an exhibition of Apocalypse works.
He also talks about his relationship to Los Angeles (and being born and raised here), and how BILLINGS feels a bit like a home base for him.
Also featured in the video is a photograph of him, based on the iconic ‘Huey Newton, Black Panther Minister of Defense’ (by Blair Stapp), shot by photographer Mario de Lopez, which is also featured as part of BILLINGSXLA.
